Internet dating is like riding a rollercoaster—fun and frightening all at once! Having experienced my fair share of peaks and valleys, I’ve encountered all kinds of men. I’ve also made classic mistakes. I’ll be profiling different types of daters in this new MeetMoi series: DATER PROFILES
DATER PROFILE: THE INTERVIEWER
Last summer, I chose a local carnival as the setting for a first date. I thought the atmosphere would lighten the potential awkwardness of a first conversation. Before I could say “cotton candy,” he fired away with question after question. After the tenth one, I handed him a mock microphone: he didn’t take the hint. The probing was a turnoff.
Some of us revel in peeling back the layers on a first date. Others approach it like Barbara Walters: armed with questions, pop quizzes, even skepticism. My advice? Be in the moment.
Find the balance between engaging and investigating. There’s a natural ebb and flow to the discovery process, and it should feel genuine for both parties. We all want to avoid wasting time, but misplaced curiosity doesn’t just kill romance… it kills the fun!
